What is Code SPN 1569?

- Engine Protection - Power Derated Due To Other Faults This Code Occurs In Conjunction With 10516, 11000, 11003, 11004, And
- Engine Protection Torque Derate Not Available Or Condition Exists
If you do not know what these explanations mean, you should talk to your dealer or a good mechanic familiar with this error code. Or you may find it in the technical manual that came with your RV.
According to Freightliner, the engine is not derated at this time but it could possibly happen. That company repaired one but it had more to do with a DEF line than torque.
Freightliner Cummins Engine Code 1569
The SPN1569 FMI 31 translates to Cummins code 3714 and it is only a warning code. There should be a second code along with this one to let you know what the problem is. You may not get the right answer as Cummins doe snot put all their codes to appear on your dashboard screen.
You would need a code reader to find out what is wrong and there is a possibility that the code is a false one. Also, you may be able to drive with this code on but be careful as some owners have had their RVs derate when going uphill.
You can try cycling the engine to see if that clears the code but you should also contact Spartan or Cummins and start a technology ticket to provide some history of the problem.
SPN 1569 Engine Protection Torque Derate
There is a possibility that your engine can fix the problem as you drive. But not always, it will depend on the type of problem in your emissions system. However, this is just a warning code and you will have between 4 to 8 hours of driving time to get off the road or get to a dealer.
If you do not make it in that time, the RV will be derated and you will only be able to drive at 5 mph. A second code is also supposed to appear telling you the specific problem. Look for a second code as you drive.
Keep in mind there are plenty of other codes associated with this one so the problem can be just about anything in your emission system
How To Clear SPN 1569 FMI 31
“To clear 1569:31 you need to use Servicemaxx and go into parameters.
Set SCR RESET PP 95461 from "0" to "1" (from NO to YES)
Press "Program all changes"
Clear DTCs. Cycle the key off for 1 minute (key must be off for a minimum of 1 minute)
Go back into parameters. If SCR Rest is still 0 or No, change it back to 1 and cycle the key back off for 1 minute”
If that does not work, head off to your dealer or trusted mechanic who knows error codes for Cummins and let them handle it for you. Not everyone is capable of handling these types of procedures. No shame if you do not know how. Some people can’t boil water either.
Cummins SPN 6802 FMI 31
This section and the next will come from the SPN fault code list and this specific code means-- Aftertreatment 1 Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing System Frozen. The description reads:
All or part of the diesel exhaust fluid system (DEF tank, DEF supply lines, DEF pump, and DEF doser, etc.) in bank 1 is frozen. In situations where it is desired to report the DEF system frozen as a faulted condition, FMI 31 can be used with this SPN in diagnostic messages.
Cummins SPN 5321 FMI 31
The description that comes with this error code reads-- Drive Strategy Exit/Reason Code and See document ISO 11783-7 for SPN details. This code description is not as helpful as the previous one but your mechanic should know what to do when it appears.
