Here is a simple process to help you make sure your lift system is back in action as quickly as possible. Step one is to look for any obstructions that may be blocking the path of the lifts or the cables. Use a pair of pliers to remove any obstacles.

Step two has you cranking the winch handle. If you find no resistance, the cable is broken and needs to be replaced. Step three is for you to go underneath the trailer and remove the long main tube.

You are to check the cable for anything jamming its operation and any damage to the pulleys. If the pulleys are damaged, then you need to replace them as well. The next step is to check the 4 smaller tubes. Inside of those are the springs and if they are damaged they need to be replaced.

Greasing the springs will help you avoid damage. When you put the tubes back into place make sure to grease all the grease fittings so that the tubes, pulleys, and springs work right.

We cannot guarantee that these parts will be affordable or available. If your system is old, you may have to refit the lift system with the newer model. Also, if you want IDT replacement parts, about 4 years ago this was the only company that stocked them is Canvas Replacements in Wisconsin.

IDT Lift System Recall

DT-Lift-System-Recall

There was a recall of the IDT lift system but it happen a very long time ago. After the recall, IDT went bankrupt and at the time of this writing, there is no information on the reasons why the company failed.

Viking started with Goshen, then in 2004 to 2006 it switched to the IDT lift system and then back to Goshen or L & W Engineering. L & W bought the IDT technology and made parts for it but that was only done till about 2015 or so.

The recall does not affect any sales today.

Some Final Words

Lift systems change as technology finds new ways to do the same task. Unfortunately, that makes it tougher to find parts for the older system that has served you well. it is possible to get a company to fabricate the parts, but that is going to be very expensive to do.

You may have to upgrade to the new system and save yourself the hassle.
