The highest setting may be the best setting. That seems to be the way it works with some refrigerators. The lower settings just do not seem to get cold enough to keep the food fresh and healthy. But when you go too high you run the risk of freezing your food.
There seems to be a little process involved to get your Norcold fridge to cool. You start by setting the fridge to 9 and then look for the freezer dial. This dial lets you determine how quickly, not cold, your food will be refrigerated. The lower the number the faster the cooling.
To learn more about this topic, just continue to read our article. It has the information you want to know about so you can control your energy use without sacrificing any cooling. Take a few minutes to get this important information.
It seems that the N611V Fridge was made without a temperature control. That means you have to look for the thermistor that is located near the fins. This location is in the back of the fridge when you open the door.
Once you find the thermistor, you move it up to get the temperature a little cooler and down to make it a little warmer. If you are having trouble with the thermistor it may be due to its location.
Its proper location is on the 5th fin. Any other spot and you would need to move it to that spot. When it is on the wrong fin, it will provide you with the wrong temperature. Double-check to see where it is located so you get proper cooling.
The coldest setting is 9. There are many owners who find that setting to be the best one for their needs. However, there are some owners who have stated that the fridge should provide sufficient cooling at levels 3 to 4.
But with that setting, you need to make sure that several or all of the following are present:
- proper airflow is continuous
- the fridge was properly installed and has the correct clearances
- there are no dead air spaces
- the boiler section is getting proper heat transfer
- the fridge is not operating during too many off-level situations
- the fridge receives regular and proper maintenance
- all wires are clean and properly connected to the terminals, etc.
The Norcold Fridges come preset from the factory. This is not a set-in-stone setting and you can adjust it to the temperature level you want. The trick is that you would have to reset it every time you start your RV,
That seems to be when the Norcold fridge comes with a control panel and electronic temperature control. As you know by now, the higher the number the colder your fridge gets.
Most of the time, there is nothing wrong with the temperature dial. Many RVers simply pack too much food inside the fridge so that there is no airflow or it is blocked at the fins.
Watch how much food you put in the fridge and let the hot food cool first or you would be using too much energy to cool the unit down again.
These settings may be on a slide bar or a littler lever you pull towards the right-hand side to get a colder temperature. There is no real difference between these settings and the 1 to 9 except that the latter has more of them.
5 will be the coldest and the ideal temperature range will be between 33 and 39 degrees F. It is a good idea to have a fridge thermometer inside so you can keep an eye on the temperature
These movable thermometers do not take up a lot of space. To get colder or warmer temperatures in your fridge sometimes you have to move the thermistor to a different fin. Your owner’s manual should guide you in this option.
Just seeing the numbers 1 to 9 may not be helpful. All you know is that the higher you go the colder it gets inside the fridge. Then you know the opposite is true as well.
One RV owner did a study on the temperature levels for each of those numbers in this specific fridge. Here are his results and all degrees are in F:
1 - 41.7
2 - 40.2
3 - 39.0
4 - 37.5
5 - 36.3
6 - 36.3
7 - 36.1
8 - 34.7
9 - 34.6
Keep in mind that the colder you go, the more energy you will use.
If you are just leaving on a trip and haven’t used your fridge for some time, then it should take between 4 and 6 hours for it to get to the temperature you have set.
In some fridge models, it may take upwards of 12 to 24 hours depending on the model and how it was made. If you want to speed that time up, you should not pack the fridge until it is cool.
Or you can use a fridge fan to speed up circulation and airflow. Finally, you can put ice inside the fridge to help cool it faster. Don’t forget to keep space between your items.
Different Norcold fridge models will have different ways to set the temperature. Make sure to talk with the dealer when you are buying the RV about this issue.
Then double-check with the manual to make sure you know how to set the temperature to get the best cooling results. Remember, not all Norcold fridges were designed with thermometers and you have to do extra adjustments to get the fridge cool.
Before you leave on your trip make sure to plug it in the night before so it is ready for food in the morning.
