First, the good news. There seem to be 430 Speedco outlets where you can get your oil changed. 5 more just opened up in July of this year. The bad news is that there are no advertised prices for oil changes.
The prices may not be advertised on the different websites related to Speedco but many people who have used their oil change service have mentioned their costs. You can expect to pay anywhere between $377/$393 to $460/$468 depending on the time of year.
To learn more about the cost of these oil changes and the Speedco company, just continue to read our article. It has the information you want to know about so you can decide to use their services or go elsewhere. The choice is always up to you.
We checked the Love’s and the BVD Petroleum websites and they do not list the oil change prices at the Speedco outlets. Love’s owns Speedco, and there have been some complaints about the oil change costs.
For example, one person who used their services in Sept. Of 2018 paid roughly $393, which included a $70 RV upgrade fee. 6 months later, in 2019, the same owner paid $468 for the same oil change service on the same RV.
Then in Jan. 2020, one owner paid $460 for an oil change but a month earlier, the cost was only $377. Other owners have reported different prices so your cost may depend on where you go and what time of year it is.
Speedco may offer different packages, which would explain some of the price differences. The basic package could include just- Oil Filled to Capacity, Oil Filters, & Fuel Filters.
Transmission and Gear Box Services include Complete Drain of All Fluids, Fill to Capacity, and Visual Inspection. The PM packages will be detailed in the upcoming section.
Some owners have reported paying a lot more for their PM package oil change. We mention BVD as it partners with Loves in the US and with Petro Canada in Canada. That company offers the same packages as Speedco and Loves do.
The PM in PM service simply means preventive maintenance service package. The service that is included is as follows: Oil Filled to Capacity, Oil Filters, Fuel Filters, Fluid Level Inspection, Tractor Lube, Test Nitrite Level in Coolant & Brake Inspection.
It is the same service you will find if you stop in at BVDs when you are traveling through Canada. There is an elite preventive maintenance package as well.
This package is advertised on the BVD website but not the Loves one. It includes- Oil Filled to Capacity, Oil Filters, Fuel Filters, Fluid Level Inspection, Tractor & Trailer Lube, Nitrite Level Test, Brake Inspection, & Air Pressure Check.
The BVD website says- “Available At Love's & Speedco”. The two websites have one more thing in common. They do not place their oil change prices online. You may have to contact your local outlet to get an exact figure on what this oil change will cost you.
Doesn’t matter if it is the basic or PM package, neither company advertises its cost to you. What it said on the BVD website is that “prices are subject to change without notice. Prices are not guaranteed…”
That statement opens up a whole new area that may not be regulated day either company. They can charge one price one day, then charge a higher price another, then chalk it all up to those few quoted words.
If the price is too high for their oil changes, Loves does place at the bottom of their oil change page an offer to get $25 off. You must be a participant in the Love’s Express Advantage program to get that discount. It is a little saving but with prices changing at a moment’s notice, it may not save you any money.
One owner paid over $500 for his PM package.
If you are still capable of crawling under your RV, it may pay you to do this work yourself. The cost of oil filters and grease may run you between $130 to $150.
That is a substantial saving when you compare the costs of DIY with Speedco’s prices. The oil change and greasing should not take more than an hour so you are paying yourself over $150 to $300 once the work is completed.
It is something worth thinking about as not everyone can afford those high Speedco or Loves prices. We checked the oil change locator on the Loves website. It listed fuel prices but not the cost of an oil change.
There is one thing that may redeem Love’s truck centers in the eyes of RV owners. The company does offer overnight stays at many of its locations. There are about 500 locations you can stop at, and over 350 of them are dog friendly.
You can read about these rest stops at this link. There is a gold reserve link to push on that page so you can reserve your spot before you get close enough to stop.
We are not sure how many of these travel centers offer propane for sale or RV dump sites and those topics are for another article on another day. With so many other RV-friendly businesses stopping their RV services, it may pay to check Loves out.
It may be best to go to another outlet to get your RV’s oil changed. The lack of transparency on the total cost of your oil change is something to be suspicious about.
But just because Loves and Speedco do not offer lower costs for oil changes, does it mean their other services should be avoided. Check them out and see what services will be beneficial for you to use. You may save on those other services.
