RV Airflow Systems Reviews (Is RV Airflow System Worth It?)

Staying cool is an issue that has been ongoing for thousands of years. People want to get cool when it is hot out. Until now, it has not been easy to do this task. Sometimes it is only a matter of adding a simple accessory to keep your RV cooler when you are inside.

This little accessory has had nothing but good things said about it. Whether it is worth it or not is up to you. It is a simple-to-use device that re-directs your airflow so you can stay cool when it is hot outside.

To learn more about this product, just continue to read our article. It has the information you need to know about so you can make the right decision. The only negative comments we have found so far are about the cost of the product.

What is RV Airflow?

What-is-RV-Airflow

This product is made from high-density, 3-pound extended polystyrene (EPS) and it can be custom shaped to fit your RV model. In fact, this product can be shaped to fit over 140 RV models currently. That number may go up as the company makes more designs.

The shape you get depends on the shape of your AC unit. Plus, it only works with those AC RV models that come with a ducted system. The design of this product is limited to Dometic and Coleman AC units currently. We have no word on any plans for the expansion of the design.

The purpose of the RV AirFlow is to re-direct your RV’s airflow so you get a better concentration of cool air. It increases airflow by blocking possible places where air leaks out and disappears.

This design helps cool your RV or trailer down to the point where you may find it too cold to handle. You may find that this product reduces noise. One owner reported a 4 DB drop when they installed theirs.

Plus, this material does not absorb water cutting the chances of mold growing in your ducting system. This keeps your RV or trailer safer and healthier.

Where is RV Airflow Located?

We checked their website and they do not mention a specific location. Even their about us page did not say where their home territory was. Their contact information just opens up a small menu of different email options and that is about it.

However, the about us page does say that they partner with RPI Components Inc. and they may have an office at that company or you have to contact RPI to get more information.

Most of their products are sent to Grand Design in a business agreement between the two entities. You may not find them in other brands of RVs unless alterations or new agreements have been made to their current contracts.

What we can say, and according to their website, is that this product is made in the US. It is also very lightweight which means you will not lose any weight room when you are loading up and getting ready to go.

The product was designed by an RV enthusiast who had trouble with the heat inside his RV after turning on all 3 AC units. This product is supposed to spread the air out evenly so there are no more cold or hot spots inside your RV.

Does RV Airflow Work?

We are not the only ones who investigate this product and their results have been the same as ours. These investigations were done independently so there is no manipulation of the results.

Like owners, reviewers, and other people who want to know about this product, we could not come up with any negative reviews or comments so far. The people we read all said the same thing, they were satisfied with the results after installation and said it worked well.

One owner said it worked too well and his spouse was very cold even though the temperature outside was around 90 degrees F in the evening. There was a noticeable difference before and after installation so it is safe to say that it works and works well.

One problem is that they are not producing as many designs that will fit more RVs or trailers. They are working on developing more but that takes time. This was said in 2021 so may be by now they have added new designs for more RVs.

Another problem will be that this airflow system is basically Styrofoam and some strip insulation. It is a simple product that seems to make RV life in the summer better.

What makes it a problem will be the price. For such simple components, the price may not be justified. When we put the content in the next section, the information will help you decide if it is worth it to you or not.

RV Airflow Cost

The website does have an e-commerce store set up and a checkout system. They place their products on that page. While they list 6 different products, the prices are very static. Only 1 of the 6 is more than $170. The lone one is selling for $180.

The company places a drop-down menu at the top of the page so you can search alphabetically or by all products. That latter menu goes by brand name and the other menu goes by different price styles, etc.

To get to that page, use the link above and click on the word shop at the top menu. We did not see too many retail outlets selling this product in our search. One that did turn up was selling the airflow system for over $200.

However, it seems that they want to focus on selling their products through local and individual RV locations or businesses. There is a retail opportunity web page that you can use if you want to sell their product.

That web page says “Are you a campground, RV dealer/service center, or other retail location...” You will have to contact them to get further details.

Is RV Airflow System Worth it?

The cost, as you can see, is around $200 for what is basically some Styrofoam and insulation. That, in and of itself, may not make spending that type of money worth what you are getting.

However, the benefits may change your mind. When this product is installed in your RV, you get increased airflow, noise reduction, and more. Because it is made from that material mentioned earlier, water is not absorbed so you do not have to worry so much about mold or mildew growing in your ducting.

Another benefit is that this product is completely recyclable. When it wears out you do not throw it in the trash but send it to the recycling center. According to their ‘How it works’ web page the product:

It contains no CFC, HCFC, or HFC blowing agents or formaldehyde, is chemically inert so it does not produce methane gas or any contaminating leachates, and is 100% recyclable! “

That chemical-free design may make it worth the cost as other alternatives may not be so free from harsh and dangerous chemicals. According to all reports, even with these benefits, it still may be a bit over-priced for what you are getting material-wise.

RV Airflow Systems Reviews

The company’s website has a ‘What people are saying’ web page. It is just dome links taking you to different locations where people are talking about their product. You have to scroll down on one to find the thread but the reviews in that thread are all positive.

We have seen some of the same reviews on different discussion forums and everyone is saying the same thing. They all like it and the product makes a real difference inside their RVs.

The biggest complaint about this product is that it costs more than it should. Most people say they do not want to pay that much money if a design becomes available for their RV or trailer.

Another person made one for 1/7th the cost. His model was not as fancy as the Airflow model. Another owner did the same for $6 and he found his materials at Lowe’s.

While the majority of owners like this product and use it, others cannot justify the cost especially when they can do almost the same thing for a lot less money.

One flaw in the Airflow system is that it will block the use of the ‘air dump’ in many AC units. The air dump is a plastic sliding door inside the unit that blocks the air from going to the vents in the duct system. When you slide that door closed, the air just drops down into the RV.

There was a video on YouTube that one owner used to create his model. You can view it to see if it will work for your model. You may be one of the unlucky ones where Airflow does not make a design for your RV model.

RV Airflow For Coleman Mach 3

RV-Airflow-For-Coleman-Mach-3

The company does sell 2 designs that will fit the Mach 3. The same designs will also fit the Mach 10 & 15 models. A third design is specifically for the Mach 8 AC unit only.

The cost at the website’s store is $170 for all three options. The United RV outlet has this system and it is on sale. Their regular price is $170 so there is no real competition with the RVAirflow store. Right now they have the system on sale for $147 approx.

It makes you wonder how cheaply it costs to make this product. Another outlet RVUpgrade is selling them at $170. These prices are just for the Coleman Mach 3, 10 & 15 since this one product fits all three.

Camping World also markets this option but their regular price is listed at $186 but the store has it on sale for only $170. If you are a Good Sam member, then you will get 930 points if you purchase it there.

Check your local campsites to see if they signed up to be a retailer. You may get a deal through them but that is not a guarantee.

How To Install RV Airflow System

The how it works web page has a 2, almost 3-minute video to watch. That tells you that it should take you less than 5 minutes to install this product. That is shorter than it will take to write this section. If you do not understand the following instructions, go to the video for a visual lesson.

1. Take the filter covers and filters out of your AC unit

2. Then take the main cover off. There should only be 4 screws holding it to your roof.

3. There is another cover under the main one and you need to remove the 4 screws holding it in place

4. Once that is done, remove the 4 lag bolts holding the AC unit to the roof of the RV.

5. Now remove the duct inserts, all of them

6. Next, insert the Airflow systems

7. Put the lag bolts back, the two covers, and the filters, and you are done.

These instructions are for the Coleman AC unit. You may need to search for instructions for the Dometic AC units. It is a simple installation and should go easily for you.

Some Final Words

While this product does what is claimed, we still have reservations about paying that much money for something made of Styrofoam. It is a good system if you are not handy and can’t make your own.

The benefits this system brings may be worth the price but you have to be the judge of that. The system is safe for everyone as it is basically chemical free and does not allow mold or mildew to grow.
