There is nothing wrong with being patriotic. In fact, it is a very good trait no matter which country you live in. Displaying that patriotism can come through simple demonstrations such as flying your country’s flag from a DIY flag holder. These DIY flag holders do not need to be elaborate, just sturdy and nice looking.
All you need to make a nice sturdy PVC flag holder is some PVC pipe cut to the length you want, some paint, screws, and a flag. A block of wood would be helpful as well. Then follow the upcoming steps on how to put those items together to make your flag holder.
To learn more about doing this simple project, just continue to read our article. It has those instructions and helpful guides that make the task a lot simpler to do. Take a few minutes to see if this information will get you feeling patriotic.
This is not a difficult task if your PVBC pipe is long enough. The first step will be to cut that pipe into the following sections- 2- 4-foot pieces, 6- 6-inch pieces, and 2 12-inch pieces. All pipe and other pieces should be 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
Then you will need 1 double connector, 3 T connectors, and 4 elbow connectors. Along with that, you will also need 1 cap, 2 eye screws, and 2 climbing clips.
Step 2 will be to connect the 12 and 6-inch pieces together making a nice rectangle base to hold the 4-foot sections of pipe. One T connector will be in the center of the base with an open end pointing up. The other 2 will be in the center on the sides to connect the center pipe and the side pipes.
Step 3 has you putting one of the 4-foot sections of pipe in that center T connector that has an open spot. Then you place the double connector on top end of the 4-foot pipe. Step four has you drilling two holes, one for each eye screw, and screwing them into place.
These holes go in the second 4-foot piece and should be spaced to fit the width of your flag. Once those screws are in place, the last step has you putting the end cap on top of the second 4-foot piece and attaching the latter to the open end of the double connector. After that is done, you are finished except to attach your flag.
If you want to make it permanent, add the necessary PVC glue that will hold all connections secure and tight.
There are different designs you can use to make your PVC flag pole. The one described above allows you to place it anywhere you want in your yard, campsite, or section of the RV park.
However, not all places will allow you to fly a flag on an independent stand. Before you start building, not only check the regulations of your location but decide which kind of flag pole you want to have.
Also, you have complete freedom over the diameter of the PVC pipe you will use. You can go as small as 1 inch, or 1 1/2 inches, or up to 2 inches if you prefer. It is totally up to you how thick you want that diameter. Remember the thicker the diameter the more sturdy your flagpole will be.
The next step will be to figure out how you want your flag pole to be held. Not all RV and trailers can accommodate a block of wood as a holder so you need to find the right piece of metal that attaches easily to some part of your RV, etc.
One thing you do not want to do is have a flag pole holder that will damage your RV, etc., or create holes for water to enter. Make sure to have some silicone sealant on hand to waterproof those holes if you go that route.
The holder should be as close to the diameter of your PVC pipe as possible. That way you get a secure fit that won’t have the flag dropping out and hitting the ground. Make the holder long enough to support the pole so that does not happen either.
There are different styles that you can look at and decide which one will fit your living situation the best. There are regular websites that describe the instructions in greater detail and then there are YouTube videos that will give you a visual demonstration of these plans.
These poles will rotate with the wind, which is a good idea. The rotation will take a lot of the stress and pressure off the poles so that they do not bend or break on you when the wind gets a little high. Plus, it is an attractive sight as your flag will always be billowing with the direction of the wind.
This video link shows you how your pole should react when the wind changes directions on you. It is a short video that you can compare your effort and results to make sure yours is turning just right.

If your camping situation is such that you can attach a block of wood to your RV or trailer, the following instructions should help you. In this option, all you need is a length of PVC pipe, some paint, color is your choice, screws, and a block of wood.
The first step will be to cut the PVC pipe to the length that you need. No connectors are necessary for this option. Then once you have the right length, paint the pipe the color of your choice. You can use spray paint and make sure any paint you use will cover PVC materials.
You are also free to choose the diameter that you need but 3/4 of an inch should be sturdy enough. Next, use a 4 by 4 wood block and drill a 1 1/8 inch hole about 5 inches deep in the center of the block. Make sure your block is long enough as you will have to cut the other end at a 45-degree angle to make sure you can attach it to your RV, trailer, or post.
Paint it the same color as you paint your flag pole or paint it to match the color of the post, RV, or trailer. Let it dry before getting ready to attach the block. Once the block holder is dry, use long enough screws to attach the block to the post, etc. make sure the screws are long enough to hold the block securely.
If you want you can always use some carpenter’s glue to help hold it in place. After all that is done, Attach your flag to your flag pole and put it in its holder. The flag should have a sleeve to it for easy attachment.
There are many ways to have your flag pole fit your RV or trailer living situation. One is to have no base but a sharpened end on the bottom of the flag pole. Then stick it in the ground going deep enough so the flag won’t fall over and touch the ground.
That is just one option you have as you can use adjustable metal bands to secure the pole to your RV or trailer ladder. All you have to do is use a screwdriver to tighten that band.
The key in the different options is to make the flag pol long enough and sturdy enough so that the flag is not in danger of hitting the ground. Here is a link to many different designs you can try.
