Everyone is trying to get the best apps and features attached to their products. RVs are no exception to this trend. It seems that Grand Design and Lippert have teamed up to produce an app that helps RV drivers monitor different functions attached to their RV models.
This app is the same as the Lippert One Connect. If you know how to use that system, then you should be able to use the Grand design Compass Connect app. The interface seems clear and easy to use but if you need glasses, you might want to put the app on your tablet and not your phone.
To learn more about this system, just continue to read our article. It gives you as many tips and hints as possible. Take a few minutes to see if this app is for you or not. Moving on up to the technology age is not for everyone. Both systems are powered by Lippert.
The control panel for this new app seems very straight-forward. The controls are well organized and you simply need to tap the icon to get the function or feature you want to use or add. The + sign is in the top left corner and you tap it when you want to add new features.
When you change screens the < is the back button and it sends you back to the home page. The settings icon is in the top right corner and next to it will be your icon to help you set your 4-digit pin. The tank monitoring option may be a bit hard to tap for some people. All three options are tightly placed together and people with large fingers may hit the wrong button.
The color design is done in a way that is easy on the eyes. There are gray and blue backgrounds that we have seen so far. When you get to the manual, you will see that it contains more than 25 figures showing you how each section works.
The manual only lists 2 troubleshooting options so it seems to be a device that is reliable and not hard to operate. Little will go wrong with it and if something does, you may have to re-download the app to fix it.
This app will work like any other app that you download. Once you get it installed, you should see the home screen come up. Then you just push or tap one of the icons to start adding in features that you want to monitor.
What the app does is help you remotely control and monitor your RV’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth®- enabled devices. This app works on both your cell phone and your tablet. Here are the features on your RV that you can monitor or control:
RV leveling systems
Power jacks and stabilizers
Interior and exterior lights
RV slide-out rooms
Power awnings
Generator
TV and bed lifts
HVAC thermostat
Gas and electric water heaters
Water and fuel tanks
Backup camera systems
Water pumps
Kitchen and bathroom vents and vent covers
Automatic door locks
The operation all depends on which icons you push, which feature you want to monitor or turn on or off, and so on. It is all done by a tap of the finger. New features include:
New User Interface
Support for Antilock braking system
Performance improvements.
You should check it out through your favorite App store. The size of the app is just over 355 MB and you are going to need an up-to-date phone to use this app.
What this app does for you is to allow you to control certain features on your RV from just about anywhere in the campground. The app is supposed to be free and once installed, you get more power to control those important features or monitor other ones.
The current app was released in December 2019 and the latest update took place in May of 2022. The current version is 5.0.2 and the app size is 341 MB. A little lower than the size we just mentioned in a previous section.
There are similar apps to this option. They do the same job as the Grand design Compass Connect. The competitors to this option are the LCI One Connect, Lippert Components WeRV, Lippert Connect, HPC Hydraulics’HPC Basic, & GAF Corps’GAF WI.
What makes Grand Design’s app better is that it comes from a company that you know and trust.
It is possible to add Compass Connect after the fact. By that, it is meant that you have already bought your RV and then have it installed a year or so later. It just may be a difficult project to take on and pay for. The control board does take up a lot of space in a storage compartment.
That is for the monitoring and control system that is required before you download the app.
Getting the app is easy. As long as your phone is iPhone, iPad, & iPod Touch 12.0 or higher, you can download and use the app. You may have to check your app store about using it with the Android phone, etc., systems. The sites we saw only listed the iPhone, etc., components.
Getting into the technological age can be difficult. Not everyone likes technology or how it works. It would take some getting used to when you have this system. You may be exposed to it sooner than you think as Grand Design is making this a standard feature on some of their trailer models.
Check out your favorite app store to see what phone requirements you need. This may be a good excuse to spend the money and upgrade your phone. The app is free as long as you are prepared to learn how to use it.
