While it can be long-lasting, rubber items do wear out. Usually, they do this at the most inconvenient time, especially around appliances. The trick to buying rubber grommets is to buy the right size or you end up with a myriad of wrong sizes in your drawers or storage bins.
This should not be a problem as the rubber grommets are generic and will fit any brand of appliance you have in your RV. You do not need to buy from Furrion, etc., as those options are usually too expensive. Generic is the same so there should be no replacement problem.
To learn more about this topic just continue to read our article. It provides the information you want to know about so you can replace lost or broken rubber grommets on your RV stove. Take a few minutes to see how this information helps you solve a problem or two.
It seems that prices have gone up in the last 2 years. Someone is selling Camco grommets in a pack of 4 for $8 on Amazon. Another vendor is selling Atwood grommets in a pack of 4 for $14.
If you have a Magic Chef stove in your RV, you can get 8 at Amazon for $14. Or you can go to one of the big box outlets, for example, Walmart, Home Depot, Target, Lowe’s, etc., and buy generic grommets that should work at a much lower price.
Or you can go to one of the many RV parts and products outlets dotting the internet highway to get brand-specific grommets. Dometic ones are being sold at $10 approx., at Panther RV products. That price is for a set of 4.
etrailer has them on sale for a Furrion stove. The regular price is $12 and they are on sale for $8 approx. (we round up or down). These outlets should have grommets made by different brands as Panther has some for the Suburban stove.
But it seems that Amazon is your place to shop. That marketplace seems to have hundreds of vendors selling the same product
The purpose of these grommets is more of an anti-rattle product than a support product. They are placed in stoves to keep the grates from moving about and creating a lot of noise as you drive.
You can find this brand of grommet just about anywhere now but the price is a bit outrageous. Back in 2020 owners had to pay $9,99 just for 1 grommet and that was not through Furrion but through outside dealers at e-Bay and other locations.
You won’t like the 2022 price at e-trailer. Their regular price for 1 Furrion rubber grommet is just over $12 but right now they are on sale for just over $8.
The strange thing is that while Amazon carries Furrion products, they do not sell any Furrion rubber grommets. You can get them for other brands but not this one.
But since grommets are generic, you should be able to find some off-brand style that will fit your Furrion stove. Hopefully, at a far cheaper price than some of the stores, we have already mentioned.
We did not find any Dometic grommets at Amazon either. But we did see lots of Atwood options that may be the same thing. Now that Dometic owns Atwood or has for some time, the Atwood brand may fit your Dometic stoves.
We stand corrected. There is Dometic for sale on Amazon, one popped up in our search for this product. BUT the landing page sends you to the Dometic store. No price is listed on the landing page and you have to search the store until you find this part.
The Panther RV products outlet has a set of 4 for just over $7. But be forewarned, these stores have limited stock due to the current supply chain issues.
You can also try Dometic directly to see if they have any in stock and ask them for the price. Don’t be surprised if you get a sticker shock when you hear how much they cost.
There are different outlets that come up in a quick search and you should be able to find one near you if you choose to avoid Amazon, e-Bay, and similar marketplaces.
Amazon used to have this option on sale. The landing page tells everyone that they are currently unavailable and Amazon is not sure when they will be available again.
To reach the suburban vendor you can’t search on Amazon as our search ended with no results. You have to use your search engine on your browser to get to the link that takes you to the vendors.
Panther, Dyersonline, and RVupgrade store are just a few of the independent outlets that do stock this part. They are being sold at $3.95 for 4, $0.49 for one (only 3 left), and $1.65 for one respectively.
Far cheaper than other brands. The best thing to do is to do your search and find one that is near your location. Not everyone likes to have them delivered. When you visit the store, you can bring your old one in to compare designs to make sure you get the right one.
Amazon does have many off-brand options that may fit your stove. That marketplace sells different kits with grommets in different sizes. Their prices are reasonable but the question is, do you want all those extra grommets taking up space in your RV?
That would be the economical way to go if you could use all those different grommet sizes. Or you could share them with people who do need larger or smaller size options.
This seems to be more complicated than one would think. Usually, you just go by what the ruler says and get a 1/2, 1/4, 3/8, and so on. But if you do not know the size or where to measure you can do two things.
One way would be to measure your old one. That is the quickest option. You would measure the top of the grommet and the lower section that is usually hidden. That way you should get an exact size.
The second method would be to measure the following six areas- inside diameter, outside diameter, groove diameter, groove width, and overall thickness. That is the more difficult option.
Or, you just remember the brand name, and take your old one with you and match it up at the store you go to. That is the simplest way. Keep in mind that grommets also have part numbers. Use that if you have it on hand.
Most of our search results produced websites talking about installing two-sided metal grommets. The reason for that lack of instruction is that rubber grommets are not that hard to install.
They can be very flexible when pushed hard enough and that is the easy way to install them. If they have a lower portion, insert that into the hole on your stove. Then push until the grommet is inside the hole and in the right position.
The trick is not to push so hard you push it right into the hole and it disappears down into your stove never to be seen again. The other trick is to make sure you have the right size.
A too-large grommet won’t fit no matter what you do. A too-small one will disappear the moment you let it go. With rubber grommets, size does matter. It has to be exact or you will have trouble.
Once you have the right size, you should clean the opening the grommet will enter. This little extra effort helps slide the grommet into place easier and quicker.
Next, go slow and insert one side of the flange into the hole first, then maneuver the rest of the flange into place. The rubber is flexible and maybe a small dull knife can help you with the maneuvering.
Before you insert the grommet, use some silicone sealant and spread a little around the bottom edge and the flange. This will hold the grommet in place for a long time.
If the grommet is loose, then you inserted the wrong size. You want a tight fit where the grommet does not move.
These little RV parts do a very important job. They keep the grates still so you are not disturbed by any noise when you are driving. However, they can be a big pain and a large source of frustration when they get lost down the hole they are filling.
Just remember that size matters and finding replacements is easy, just not cheap.
