Troubleshooting Furrion Thermostat Problems (Error Codes)

It is hard to tell what engineers are thinking these days. many RV features are designed in weird ways. Like the Furrion AC unit. The room temperature sensor is locked inside the AC unit making it impossible to control the air temperature in the room

One error code you may receive is the flashing ‘lo’ signal. This signal tells you that the environment is too cool for the thermostat to work or you placed the thermostat at a too low setting. Just adjusting the thermostat should fix this problem.

To learn more about these problems just continue to read our article. It describes the issue and provides as many solutions as possible. Take some time and read through our content so you get the help you need.

Furrion Thermostat Troubleshooting

It all begins with knowing where to look. For example, if you have a dual air conditioner set up, you may be surprised to learn that the room temperature sensor is not in the room.

You have to either go inside your AC unit or the AC return air duct to find it. Then you have to put the sensor into the room yourself if you want your thermostat to work properly.

Don’t worry, the black wire with a rounded black end is clearly labeled as the room sensor. There is no confusion when you start looking at all the other wires surrounding the sensor.

What this design tells you is that it will not always be the thermostat that is the problem. The design of the AAC or heating unit may be the issue and you have to look in the right places to find the problem, then fix it.

Make sure to have a manual handy so the diagrams can help you locate the real problem. Those diagrams should save you some time.

Common Furrion Thermostat Problems

1. Thermostat not working- this is a simple case of a wire or wires not being connected properly or they have come apart from their connections. or the wires are simply loose or damaged.

Re-tightening the wires or replacing them are your two options. This is an easy and quick fix and doe snot take a lot of knowledge to complete.

2. Thermostat, not cooling or heating- the big question you have to ask yourself is, did you configure the thermostat to not? If you answered in the positive, then the part may be damaged or malfunctioned. Or there may be a wiring problem.

If you answered in the negative, then configure the thermostat first to see if that solves the problem.

3. The display is stuck- if this happens, the usual source for the problem is a mistake in the configuring process. When you see the display is stuck, you have to reset the thermostat.

To do that, you just need to remove the power supply, wait a few minutes and then reconnect the power and re-configure the device.

4, Low airflow- this is a thermostat-connected problem and you can boost the speed of the fan to increase the airflow. However, if the vents are clogged you may spread dust all over the place when you do this step.

Clean the vents first, to see if that solves the problem.

Furrion Thermostat Not Working

The main issue here would be as described in the previous section. Yes, the thermostat in general could malfunction or be a faulty part. You can check that out but before you do there are other areas to look at.

Look at all the wires and connections to make sure they are not damaged, broken, loose, or frayed, etc. Then check to see if power is coming to the unit. If it is a battery-operated thermostat, the batteries could be out of juice.

Change the batteries if they are out of power. Or check the power supply cable to make sure there is electricity flowing through it. If not you need to find the power source and deal with it.

For loose wires, etc., just reconnect them, tighten them up or replace damaged ones. Once all that is done and everything looks good and you still cannot get it to work, check the thermostat for malfunctions or faults.

You need a good power supply before you examine the thermostat and see if it is the real problem or not.

Furrion Thermostat Error Codes

Furrion-Thermostat-Error-Codes

Since it is only a small part, Furrion only gave it a limited number of error codes. There are 6 only according to the manual and they are as follows:

1. E1- Indoor temperature sensor out of order. The system will shut down

2. E2- Evaporator temperature sensor out of order. The system will shut down.

3. E3- Loss of communication between the thermostat and control box. System will shut down.

4. E4- Condenser temperature sensor out of order. The system will shut down

5. E5- Outdoor temperature sensor out of order. The system will shut down

6. Lo- Insufficient low level of +12V power supply. The system will shut down.

Right below the error codes is a couple of diagrams to help you troubleshoot any problem that arises. Sometimes it is not the sensor or condenser that is the problem but a loose wire. Those diagrams will help you track down the problem wire and get it fixed

Plus, those diagrams also show the locations of the sensors, just in case they have failed as well. The manual makes repairs a little easier to do.

Furrion Thermostat E3 Code

This is what the manual says- “Loss of communication between the

thermostat and control box. System will shut down” While some owners cannot find information on this code, it is fairly self-explanatory.

Something that connects the two devices has broken, come loose, or was damaged in some way. That damage, etc., was severe enough to cut off the two parts from talking to each other.

What bothers us about the manual is that it provides no solutions for this or any of the other codes. You may be left discussing this on the different RV discussion forums, contact Furrion, or talk to your dealer to get a solution.

It just might be something that only a technician can handle. Suggestions made by the experts at e-trailer are to check the A & B wires to make sure they were not switched. If they were, switch them back,

Then, check the wires for kinks and damage as we said earlier. Other than that, the control box may have a problem and needs to be replaced or the thermostat does and it needs to be replaced.

Furrion Thermostat Flashing LO

This is one of the common problems you will find when you own a Furrion thermostat. This is also Error code #6 even though it will never flash an E6 signal It will flash ‘Lo’ on you.

As stated in the error code explanation section above, this code tells you that either the setting is wrong on the thermostat or the room temperature level is too low for the setting you want.

Furrion Thermostat Not Showing Heat

Furrion-Thermostat-Not-Showing-Heat

One source for this issue is that the room is already too hot for the setting you want. This is often the case as the Furrion thermostat is usually made to work in temperatures between 65 and 95 degrees F.

You can try using auto control and let the computer handle the room temperature for you. Or you can wait till your room cools off first before setting the heat level.

Or you can try doing a reset on the thermostat. Sometimes this problem is solved very quickly when you try this legitimate solution. Then, once you have exhausted these options, start checking the wires.

This is going to be a common place to look as anything that runs on electricity has a wiring problem at some point in time. Or check the batteries to see if they are working right and have power.

There are a number of solutions and sources to check and use. This may be a step-by-step process until you find the problem.

It could be that the thermostat also malfunctioned and needs replacing.

Furrion Thermostat Light Not Working

We checked one Furrion FAQ page and there was no explanation for this part or this problem. But with electricity, the process is similar no matter which product you own.

The first step would be to use a multimeter to check if there is power running to your thermostat. If that checks out then according to Furrion, when asked, the LED light may have burnt out on you.

The good news is that this burnt out light does not affect operations. The thermostat will function correctly and you do not have to buy a new light if you do not want to.

You can buy a replacement light if you want but the one you need may not be in stock. The store may try to sell you the Furrion Power Smart Power Inlet - 30 Amp - Round - White # F30ITRPSAM instead.

All you have to do is confirm that it is compatible with your thermostat.

Furrion Thermostat Reading The Wrong Temperature

This is a problem with the location of the room temperature sensor. Why the company placed it where they did is beyond anyone’s common sense reasoning. A hidden sensor does not help anyone.

There is good news though. At least Grand Design offers a sensor relocation kit if you want to re-locate that part. We say at least because other RV builders may offer the same kit.

We just haven’t been able to confirm that yet. Or you can check with Furrion to see if they have that kit. We do not know what it costs as the price was not mentioned. Just call Grand Design if you own a Grand Design RV or trailer.

Or if you don’t call your brand of RV to see if they offer the same kit. Just make sure they are using Furrion AC systems in your model of RV or trailer.

How To Reset a Furrion Thermostat

How-To-Reset-a-Furrion-Thermostat

This is an easy task to do. All you have to do is unhook the thermostat from the power supply, wait a few minutes and plug the power supply back into the thermostat.

If you have a battery disconnect or inverter breaker, the main breaker turn them off as well. You want the thermostat to be dead and receive no power whatsoever.

After that is done, wait about 5 to 10 minutes and then turn the power back on. Make sure to turn every switch you turned off back on so the thermostat has complete power.

If this reset does not work, then you may need a technician to help you do some troubleshooting. Unless you understand and have experience with thermostats. Be careful as some dealers will wait till the warranty expires then they will offer to do the work for a fee.

That happened to one owner and it could happen to you. If you are out of the warranty period, get someone you trust to handle the work.

How do You Use a Furrion RV Thermostat?

Turning the thermostat on and off is a matter of time and pressing the right button. Hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn it on, and once on, hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off.

If you want to change from F to C modes, you hold both arrow buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. It will convert every time you do this step. Now that you have the device turned on and set to the right temperature gauge, you press the power button continuously to go through the menu options.

Just leave the option you want alone for 2 seconds and the control box should turn that selection on for you. There are 5 functions to choose from and they are auto, cool, heat, fan, and dry.

There are instructions for each of those modes on pages 9 & 10 of the manual and they are not long steps to use to set each mode. To set the temperature, you just simply press the up or down arrow until you get to the level you want.

Other modes you can use will be light mode and sleep mode. Page 11 of the manual will give you the exact instructions you need to follow to activate those two options.

Furrion Thermostat Wiring

If you understand wiring diagrams, and there is no shame if you don’t, they can get complicated, then you will find them on page 13 of the manual. We will be linking to the manual in the next section so there is no need to link to any diagrams in this section.

The manual is very easy to understand and find what you need. The diagrams we saw on that page are very clear and well marked. Everything is labeled and there are arrows to help you find what you need to know.

They also show the location of the sensors and other parts so you can trace the wires and find their location. The diagrams should make repair work simpler and easier but if you do not like working with electricity, get help.

That is the safest way to do repairs even though it may cost more than doing it yourself.

Download Furrion Thermostat Manual

We usually link to several different websites to make sure you can find a manual if one website does not work for you. However, in this case, we will limit our efforts to the best manual website possible.

One reason for doing this is that they have a searchable site and almost every manual online that you could possibly need. The link to that website is right here.

Just in case, we will add one more link. This one is a scroll down version so you do not have to wait for pages to load. Just click here to get to it. We are not sure if they cost to download or not but viewing and reading are free.

There are probably other websites that have these manuals and you can find them with a simple internet search. Just look for your model of Furiron thermostat.

Some Final Words

Electrically powered parts usually have the same problems. There is no power, loose or damaged wires, a fuse or a breaker is bad, or a loose connection. Or you can have a short, or the batteries wore out.

These are all common and go-to issues you should check first when you are having problems with your thermostat. Fixing these issues is all the same as well. Tighten a connection, replace a wire or battery, or recharge the batteries and on it goes.

While people do not like working with electricity, it is a simple function to repair.
